Beyond behaviour: understanding in order to intervene

Explore the relationship between disability, mental health and behaviour, and gain tools to design person-centred support.

Behavioural difficulties cannot be understood in isolation. Interpreting what may be causing them and which factors are involved is essential to plan a response suited to each person’s needs.

This in-person course offers a holistic view of the relationship between disability, mental health and behaviour in social care and residential settings. It addresses the assessment of the person, taking into account the interaction between personal, environmental, physical and mental health factors.

Understanding behaviour to design support

The course explores functional behaviour analysis as a tool to identify what may be influencing particular situations and to guide the intervention.

Building on this assessment, participants will work on designing and implementing personalised support plans, from a person-centred approach aimed at promoting wellbeing and quality of life.

The course combines practical cases, applied activities and monitoring and evaluation strategies, making it easier for professionals to transfer what they learn to real situations in social care and residential services.

A course designed to strengthen evidence-based intervention, an interdisciplinary perspective and a global understanding of each person and their environment.
